...Yeah, yeah, maybe... ( (  (-_- )  )  )

So, if someone is reading this, and is wondering why suddenly a new Journal entry from a "stranger" appears in the message center... well, nice to meet you :D.

So, after some months of personal/work schedule readjusting, Half-Windsor tying practice* and Season 3 enjoying, I can be back to comic-making YAY!

Hello, everybody.

I don't know if I've already said this somewhere, but I started making comics after Season 2 finished as a way to spend time, share some ideas I had, and to contribute to the fandom that has made the lack of ponies between seasons more tolerable.

The point is that this time, it might pass a longer time between comics or vectors. I'm starting a new stage in my life that is taking a thirdhalf of the whole day, during most days of the week, so I have much less time to "draw" (ironically, now that I don't have time, the ideas are coming... go figure!)

So, while I get used to the schedule and try to streamline my way to do things, you can fill that microscopic comic void with the help of the other artists that did the same for me, and IMO, deserve more attention, like:

Non-Pony Deviations II

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 23, 2012, 8:28 PM
I apologize if you were expecting some Comics, but those are still a Work in Progress (and still "on paper" "still on the drawing board.", both literally and figuratively, (I'm not sure if that meaning is the same in English, though...)Edit: It wasn't. Corrected.).

Anyway, you are going to see some non-ponies-pictures and a tutorial (this one barely related to ponies).

Busy

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 12, 2012, 1:39 PM
I (like to) upload a new comic every two weeks (days more or less), or at least some vectors from the last one, but this time I won't be able to.

I've been busy for about a week, owing to circumstances beyond my control, and I haven't had time to spent on the next comic. And having just my loved (but old) laptop and camera doesn't help a lot, but I'll probably will post some previous-comic-Twilight-vectors or photos this weekend, but not a comic.

Apple Maps, MAD, and Copyright.

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 3, 2012, 11:56 PM
It's better if you open this journal in a new tab.

Not having an iOS 6 device, I don't know if Apple Maps is so horrifying as the Internet says. But, as everything funny on Internet, parodies and satires are being made. This one, specifically, made me wonder about Art Theft, Copyright and Fair Use.

On October 1st, Mad Magazine satirized  (used a work to poke fun at or comment on something else) Apple Maps using the illustration "View of the World from 9th Avenue" by Saul Steinberg:

Left: MAD Magazine. Right: Original Steinberg's illustration, as seen in the March 29th issue of the The New Yorker magazine.

The Saul Steinberg Foundation holds the copyrights to Steinberg's artworks and writings. Does MAD have permission to reproduce this? Or is this Fair Use?

Wikipedia defines Fair Use as:
"[...] a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship.

For example, and if I'm not mistaken, this journal would fit in "Commentary" and "News Reporting".

But let's assume MAD does have permission to reproduce Steinberg's work. Can MAD modify it? Can MAD (or the modifier artist, SLIMEBALL) take credit of the resulting artwork? Look at the bottom-right corner of both images. Note the different signatures. In the MAD page, there is just a "Saul Steinberg" tag and "All Site Content  and © 2012 DC Comics" at  the bottom. Isn't that Art Theft? Does this means that I can make comics using Steinberg's images as a background?

What's your opinion?

:bulletgreen:Edit: This is how you do a Parody the right way:
The World As Seen From Chang'an Street - Illustration by Jon Berkeley

Influenced by Steinberg's image, this cover of the March 27, 2009 issue of The Economist depicts "How China sees the World". Contrary to MAD's copy, this one is an original drawing (even if heavily inspired), and it even includes a billboard that reads "With apologies to Steinberg and the New Yorker"

Seriously, don't feed the trolls; that's what they want you to do!

If you see or receive an offensive, racist or bigoted commentary, or if it contains other forms of hate speech, report it to the Help Desk under the "Abuse Report" category.

Journal Skin Testing

Tue Aug 7, 2012, 12:50 AM by ~tamalesyatole:icontamalesyatole:
looks like "...Any journal published from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM Los Angeles, CA, time on August 7th that includes a JournalSKIN will keep its fancy design long after Premium Membership Day is over, until it is edited..." so this journal is just to test and try how those skins looks like...

Just what I learned for the next Comic.

SHADOWS - Nothing sinister. Just is hard to believe how the absence of a shadow can change a picture... without shadows it's good, but not perfect, and with shadows, the previous "good" is "How could I think this was good?"

VOICES AND POSES - Or their absence. Actually, the absence of a dialog. Having the characters saying something means that one needs to match the expressions with the dialog, making more difficult the whole process. And not natively speaking the language is added to the difficulty (Lessened thanks to Google and Word Reference before upload, and thanks to you, the viewers, after uploaded). However, not having dialogs means that the story in the comic must be portrayed only with expressions, poses and a non-verbal language that both the artist and the audience need to know; otherwise one needs to explain what happened.

PERSPECTIVE - In a show made with Flash, like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the characters, objects and everything else, is a 2D object, or more precisely, a 2D projection of an "imaginary" 3D object. This way we can see it from the front, the side, 3/4, the back, the top, bottom, etc; but the "transitions" between them are not "smooth", since these "views" are not defined. To explain this in detail I would need to write another entire journal, but the point here is that if one needs to view an object in 2D from a perspective not usually shown in the show, one needs to imagine it. And might look bad.
I know this is highly improbable to really happen, but if Hasbro or The Hub decides to do a Gender Swapped episode, I really hope Twilight Sparkle/Dusk Shine sing at least one song.

I made an "experiment" changing Twilight voice (and because it was difficult not to do it, Spike's as well) by lowering the audio of the song 5 semitones to sound more like a young stallion. Had I lowered more, it would have ended sounding just like a bad slowed version. What do you think?

I'm assuming you saw the comic, so I guess this is not a Spoiler.

WHAT IF MLP:FiM

JUST HAVE 26 EPISODES
LEFT?

First of all, I want to make clear that I really would like to have at least 2 more seasons of MLP, but there is something I can't stop thinking about...

The Powerpuff Girls had 78 episodes (6 seasons with 13 episodes per season, not counting specials, shorts or pilots) and a Movie.
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends had 78 episodes (6 seasons with 13 episodes per season, not counting 18 shorts)
Codename: Kids Next Door had 78 episodes (6 seasons with 13 episodes per season, not counting 2 specials and 1 movie)
Dexter's Laboratory had 78 episodes (3 seasons with 13 episodes per season and one with 39 episodes, not counting pilots and the Movie)

See any pattern?

Of course, when these shows aired, none of these had such a big Fandom backing it up, like Friendship is Magic has now. So it's up to Hasbro and The Hub to keep the show on the air. So... what do you think?

-----------------------------

Now, what could happen in Season 3? These are my guesses, and maybe other's too:
A Scootaloo-centric episode. She is the only CMC that hasn't had one, after all. The episode might be about Scootaloo's family or at least could be mentioned. Since it would be too dark/sad, her parents are definitively not dead; they could be earth ponies; not only could be possible (just look at the Cakes), but that would explain why scoot isn't used to fly (she wouldn't need to fly to go to her house), why she has an scooter (for use in the ground) and we could learn that she might be only child foal, and that she admires Rainbow Dash because she saw in her the Cool Big Sis she never had.
A Luna-centric episode. Luna is a fish-out-of-the-water (figuratively speaking) so seeing how she tries to adapt to the new Equestria is always an option. The Fandom really loves Luna, so is highly likely.
New Villians. At least one Big Bad in a two-part episode, and 3 "mild" villians (Trixie or Flim-Flam style; nothing really threatening)
More songs. I would really be shocked if there were not more songs. Season 3 needs some rock! Probably courtesy of Rainbow Dash. It would be 20% cooler if there is some mention of the Wyld Stallyns [cue air guitar solo]
A Brony/Pegasister Shout-Out. We have had Big Ponies With Little Girls Toys, Shipping and Somepony Admitting Being a Brony Egghead. We might get In-Universe Fanfics and Fanart about Daring Do (not very likely, though).
The Cutie Mark Crusaders won't get their CM. Likely, if they plan to make more seasons. Being the episodes written way before the air date, and if they don't know if it will be a Season 4, is unlikely. I really don't know.
The Cutie Mark Crusaders will get their CM. I see three possibilities here:
1) All three CMC get their Cutie Marks at the same time. Highly unlikely, since it would require some situation where all  respective talents are used, like in "The Show Stoppers". Could happen around S03E10±2 episodes.
2) Only one of the CMC gets her Cutie Mark. This could be an episode where the aforementioned crusader is so happy about her CM that she "abandons" her friends. Of course, at the end of the episode they are friends again. Highly likely, since that would be a good letter to Princess Celestia.
3) All but one of the CMC gets their CM. Probably Applebloom, since runs in the family. She feels she doesn't belong to the CMC anymore and her friends remind her that, even if the lack of Cutie Marks drew them together, they will be always be friends, no matter what.
Another City. Manehattan and The Big Apple, the most likely. Maybe we could see more of the Oranges and the whereabouts of Applejack's parents (definitely not dead. That would be too sad for a Kids Show).
Fanon Favourites Ponies get at least a background appearance. We could see Vinyl dropping the bass (or at least one house clearly full of Wub) and Octavia in a concert in Canterlot (the usual) or more Bon Bon and Lyra.
Derpy. Hasbro/The Hub will avoid at all costs another Derpygate. What they could do (and probably will do) is give her screen time the same way they did in Season 2, but like some additions, like working like a MailMare, walking around with Dinky, enjoying Muffins, etc.

So... what do you think?

Yet Another Breaking-the-4th comic, but at least this one is (somewhat) educational too!

I'm sorry if you expected another epic comic, but this week is going to be a busy one, so I made this in a rush. I think it might be funny, though.
