The Krystal Empire by tamalesyatole The Krystal Empire by tamalesyatole
YAY! Tardy-First-Episode-Of-The-Last-Season-Based Comic

Get some popcorn, 'cause this is going to be lengthy ;)

Almost six months (gasp!) after my last comic, this has been finally finished! In retrospective, I think I could have finished it before, but it was only after changing the way I used to create comics/vectors that I could actually do some progress.

Anyway, Season 3 was airing at the time, and the ideas for possible comics kept coming, so I decided to make one about that crystal. I knew that it reminded me of something, and when the Mane Six went to the cold, snowy north, I realized of what: Superman!

Originally (the very first "draft") was having Cadance walking through a snowstorm, throwing a hearth-shaped crystal towards the horizon, and having the Crystal Palace rising/forming from the ground, like the Fortress of Solitude. The next frame would have Pinkie telling the CMC "...and that's how the crystal empire was made". Soon, I realized that it would have been a bucking difficult comic (and even more if it were animated), so I changed the topic to the crystal projecting an holographic floating head.

So I started creating the first background, and since the original scene had a very nice-looking shading/lightening effect, I decided to add some Gloom effect in the first two panels, so it looked like a very important and serious problem was taking place. After this, something happened, and I could't spend the whole day in ponies anymore (not even saturdays! The Horror!), you can see the difference in "style" between the 2nd and 3rd panels.

And, long story short, I re-learned to vector in short periods of time and finished this comic. Hopefully, the next one will arrive in less than a month :D. Edit June 2013:I wish... (The only advantage I see about making comics about episodes months after these aired, is that it's more unlikely that I'm doing a comic very similar to another one, based on the same idea...)

Attribution Time!
●Celestia, in the first panel, is mostly *ZuTheSkunk's MLP Resource: Celestia 01, but with modified eyes and mouth (and sparkles).
●The surprised Twilight in the 7th panel is Vector Twilight Sparkle-Shocked by Kyss.S and the second-to-last Vector Twilight Sparkle - Thoughtful by Kyss.S both by ~KyssS90

●The background of all the panels (except the first two) is my Celestia's Throne Room Background after diverse amounts of Gaussian Blur.
●The background for the first and second panels is my Throne Room Stained Glass Windows Background plus (you guessed it) Gaussian Blur!

Some vectors created for this comic:
Lecturing Celestia
Celestia Front
Curious Twilight
Twilight Stepped on Something
Laughing Luna
Crystal Pedestal

Vectors created in Inkscape. Other effects in GIMP.

This comic is even made more ironic since the Season #4 finale directly drew upon the Christopher Reeve Superman's Fortress of Solitude scene in the formation of Princess Twilight's new crystal castle.
